The First and Second Year Apprentice Classes have been busy helping the needy this season through their fund raising efforts. They organized and implemented a bottle & can drive to raise money, a canned food drive, and collected donations from various donors. They donated food and money to the Food Bank of CNY in which they surpassed last year’s total! The apprentices also purchased toys for children that are unfortunately hospitalized during the holiday season and donated hats, gloves, mittens and other necessary items to area school children.

The result of those efforts are:

$5,000.00 total donations from the Can Drive

$2,350.00 in toy distributions to four area hospitals

2,250 pounds of food delivered to the Food Bank of Central New York

$500.00 in hats, mittens, scarves, boots and coats to various schools

The apprentices are proud of their communities, and when asked why they decided to shoulder these projects, the reply was, “Because someone has to.”

OSHA

As you have probably already been made aware, the New York State Department of Labor has made some changes regarding OSHA training requirements. The change states that on projects of at least $250,000, all laborers, workers and mechanics on the site must be certified as having successfully completed the OSHA 10-hour construction and health course. The OSHA 10 legislation does not apply to projects advertised for bid prior to July 18, 2008, and only applies to workers on a public work project that are required under Article 8 to receive the prevailing wage. For more information please refer to NYSDOL Worker Protection.

You can enroll in an open course by going to the Course Info page of this site and following the instructions given there. Apprentices – do not enroll in this course, your training will be scheduled within your class. Questions can be directed to Peter Dulcich, Training Director.
